ChaseDesign challenged us to identify and improve pitfalls of current iRobot packaging and merchandising for the i7+ and e5 Roomba models. We found the current packaging and displays did not differentiate enough between models or compare features in a concise, user friendly way. Through our research we found that older market segments were being neglected and so tried to appeal to these in our design solution. Our packaging solution utilized clear iconography, prominent model numbers, visual imagery of pets and home motif to reassure shoppers that this product would fit their lifestyle. We also highlighted the easy UI of the iRobot App because that was a concern for older prospective shoppers. Our merchandising solution incorporated strategic lighting to draw attention to points of interest like branding and model numbers. We included considerations for the entire product portfolio including Braava Mops as well as two built in screen displays for video marketing material and touchscreen customer interaction.
